Real Good Looking… Remix: David
A big part of taking a ‘closer look at men’ is indeed, the ‘closer’ part. Discovering who that person actually is versus who you thought, or more accurately fantasized, they might be based on their appearance alone.
Each time we shoot a new subject–famous, not so famous and not famous at all–their true tale will follow shortly after. This is where the project gets really fun and we all can see (or be repelled by) how our preconceived notions of male beauty (and men in general) can be so easily manipulated by our desires–and someone else’s cleverly aimed lens. Hoorah!

Genetics obviously play a big part in being photogenic. dave’s father was an undeniably handsome man.
bio:My father served in the military so I grew up all over the world and learned to make friends fast. There was good and bad and I’ve learned to live through both. I’ve really enjoyed the anonymity of voice work. You hear me, but I have no face, yet I’ve sold trillions of dollars worth of product over the last 30+ years for clients like; Gatorade, BMW, Washington Apples, Toyota Dealers, Fox Broadcasting, Coca Cola and countless others. As well as appeared in Oscar winning films like Cinema Paradiso and Antartica, or popular cartoons like King of the Hill and video games like Metal Gear Solid (playing characters like The Sorrow). i live downtown, but rather live someplace like Barcelona. i love all things European. the dog (art the wonder dog) is mine and his best friend is the cat (mr president) that adopted us, who alas isn’t big on photo shoots (preferring to remain off camera.)
upcoming/current projects: film-supporting role in indie film “Lockheart” late 2014/early 2015, theatre- “A Force to Be Reckoned With” August 22-September 28 @Casa 0101, voicing open tease “Major League Baseball on FOX” Moto GP, mentor and artist @Pen USA Emerging Voices Fellowship (last 10 years.) the familiar voice you have heard advertising numerous company, brands and products on the TV.
Is the media manipulating male beauty, in a similar manner it has with women? Well, money is a poor way to value contribution to community or relationships. but it is often attached with men’s attractiveness, along with power. the media likes to manipulate all things thru objectification. it’s their fetish. the idea of male ‘beauty’ vs male ‘sexiness, etc’ is frightening to them. that’s why it’s viewed as something so rare & precious. a mutation of symmetry based on the Fibonacci sequence or fractal symmetry. as i’ve gotten older i find odd is more beautiful then ever. in truth we are all quite individual, wonderfully depraved and completely lost, while being totally intolerant of ourselves.
Do men get judged equally, or merely in a different way, than women these days? As I work in advertising, I would have to say the women are the losers here, in my opinion. So unfairly & unrealistically judged. Truthfully, men couldn’t handle being judged like women are. They’d cry & fold the first day. Today’s ‘real men & real women’ are constantly bombarded with media products and TV shows that are so lacking in substance, they need to be sold with an overt psycho-sexuality. I’m quite bored with pixie dust versions of people & values. Aren’t we all really?
what makes a man beautiful? Attention to detail regardless of status, some men can wear a sack & own it. action & discipline, tempered with compassion & intelligence. i don’t think the dali lama is sexy but he’s beautiful to me, with an endearing silly sense of humor. attitude, accompanied by wine, can make a man beautiful too. i was both flattered & embarrassed to be asked to do this, since Hollywood doesn’t waste time on people over 50. but this isn’t Hollywood, its NoTofu (lol.)

The first time I met dave, I took a photo of him covering Fashion’s Night Out @ Fred Segal Los Angeles. That was almost 3 years ago. We have been friends ever since.
