New Indie: Laurence Anyways

One of our favorite young filmmakers whom we profiled in issue one of our magazine, Xavier Dolan, is finally bringing the follow up to his exquisite first feature, Heartbeats, to US cinemas. The movie, titled Laurence Anyways, deals with issues of sexuality and acceptance much like Dolan’s first feature.
Laurence Anyways tells the story of the challenges facing a couple’s relationships when the husband reveals to his wife his desire to live as a woman.
The film won the Un Certain Regard Award for Best Actress for Suzanne Clément at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Laurence Anyways stars Melvil Poupaud, Suzanne Clément and Nathalie Baye and is out tomorrow, Friday 6/28 in New York, Miami, Chicago, Seattle, Denver and Philadelphia and expands on July 5 to San Diego and Los Angeles.
